The gala apple is one of the most classic eating apples in the world. This is still one of my favorite apples at the orchard but I am a girl who loves sweet apples.
Approximate Ripening Date: August 30th
Flavor: This is a hard, juicy, sweet apple. It's great for fresh eating.
Baking: The gala will keep its shape when baked but I find that much of the flavor cooks out of this sweet apple. I much prefer it for fresh eating.
History: Golden Delicious x Kidd's Orange Red cross, developed in New Zealand in the 1920s.
